• 2 (11/4" x 51/2") strips for hanging loops

COMPLETING THE POT HOLDERS

1. Baste a cotton batting square to the wrong side of one cream square.

2. Refer to the photo and Placement Diagram for Pot Holder A to arrange the appliqué pieces on the cream side of the batting-backed square with the pot centered about 3/4" up from the bottom edge of the square. Overlap cactus pieces and pot and place flower A at cactus tips. 3. Fus Fuse the appliqué pieces in place and machine blanket-stitch around the edges using matching threads.

4. Layer another cream square, right side down, insulated batting and appliquéd top, right side up. Baste edges together and quilt around the appliqués or as desired.

5. Fold a hanging loop strip in half lengthwise, wrong sides together, and press. Open the strip and fold in each long edge almost to the fold line as shown in Figure 1; press. Refold in the center and topstitch close to the folded edges as shown. 6. Fold loop in half and pin ends to adjacent sides of pot holder back, about 3/4" from the corner as shown in Figure 2. Baste to hold. 7. Prepare binding strips and bind edges referring to Quilting Basics. 8. Repeat steps 1–7 to make Pot Holder B.
