MATERIALS
• 1 fat eighth each light pink, dark pink,
green, orange/rust and gold batiks* • 1/4 yard blue/green batik*
• 1/2 yard white batik*
• Backing to size
• Batting to size*
• Thread
• Paper for paper piecing
• Basic sewing tools and supplies
*Fabrics from Island Batik and Warm & Natural 80/20 batting from The Warm Company used to make sample.
CUTTING
Prepare paper-piecing patterns and cut fabric pieces referring to patterns and Paper Piecing on page 80.
From blue/green batik:
• Cut 2 (21/4" by fabric width) binding strips.
From white batik:
• Cut 2 (2" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 2 each 2" x 211/2" A strips and 2" x 101/2" B strips.
COMPLETING THE PAPER PIECED SECTIONS
1. Create paper-pieced sections using the prepared patterns and cut fabric pieces, referring to Paper Piecing on page 80.
COMPLETING THE WALL HANGING
Refer to the Assembly Diagram as needed to complete the wall hanging top.
1. Arrange and join the pieced flower, stem and pot sections; press.
2. Sew A strips to opposite long sides and B strips to the top and bottom of the pieced center; press.
3. Remove all paper from the pieced center. 4. Create a quilt sandwich referring to Quilting Basics.
5. Quilt as desired.
6. Bind edges referring to Quilting Basics to finish.
