• 5" square orange print #1

• 10" square each teal print and

orange prints #2 and #3

• 1/ 8 yard total assorted red print scraps • Fat eighth dark brown tonal

• Fat quarter light tan tonal

• 1/4 yard total assorted yellow prints

• 1/4 yard yellow check

• 3/ 8 yard total assorted green prints

• 3/ 8 yard green tonal

• 5/ 8 yard green multicolor­ed print

• 3/4 yard cream solid

• Backing to size

• Batting to size

• Template material

• Embroidery floss

• Thread

• Basic sewing tools and supplies

PROJECT NOTES

Read all instructio­ns before beginning this project.

Stitch right sides together using a 1/4" seam allowance unless otherwise specified.

Materials and cutting lists assume 40" of usable fabric width for yardage and 20" for fat quarters and fat eighths. WOF – width of fabric

HST – half-square triangle

QST – quarter-square triangle

CUTTING

From light tan tonal cut:

• 1 (11/2" x 25") bias stem S strip

From yellow check cut:

• 2 (11/4" x 201/2") T strips

• 2 (11/4" x 22") U strips

From green tonal cut:

• 4 (21/4" x WOF) binding strips

From green multicolor­ed print cut:

• 2 (4" x 22") V strips

• 2 (4" x 29") W strips

From cream solid cut:

• 1 (211/2") A square

COMPLETING THE APPLIQUÉ

1. Referring to Figure 1, fold the S strip in half, wrong sides together. Stitch 3/4" from the fold. Trim the seam allowance to 1/8". Press the tube flat, centering the seam allowance on the back so the raw edges aren't visible from the front. 2. Fold the A square in half both ways and diagonally and lightly press the folds. Referring to Figure 2, position the S bias strip on the A square as shown. Baste and stitch in place.

3. Prepare templates B–R using the patterns provided.

4. From assorted yellow prints, trace and cut 36 of template B.

5. Referring to Figure 3, fold a B piece in half with right sides together.

Stitch across the top using a 1/4" seam allowance. Trim the folded corner as shown. Turn right side out and form a point. Make 36 wedges.

6. Referring to Figure 4, sew B wedges together in pairs, and then continue joining pairs to make a Dresden plate using twelve wedges as shown in Figure 5. Make three Dresden plates.

7. Trace templates C–R onto the paper side of the fusible web, referring to the list below for number to trace. Cut shapes apart and fuse to the wrong side of the indicated fabrics.

• Assorted yellow prints: 5 Q

• Orange print #1: 1 F

• Assorted green prints: 1 D, 10 J, 4 L,

2 N and 4 O

• Orange print #2: 3 K and 1 each E and ER • Orange print #3: 1 each C and CR

• Dark brown tonal: 1 G

• Light tan tonal: 1 H and 1 I

• Assorted red prints: 2 M and 5 P

• Teal tonal: 6 R

8. Referring to the Appliqué Placement Diagram, position the Dresden plates and appliqué pieces in alphabetic­al order on the A square and fuse in place.

9. Draw stems as shown in the Appliqué Placement Diagram. Embroider using a chain stitch and embroidery floss.

10. Trim A square to measure 201/2".

COMPLETING THE QUILT

1. Sew T strips to opposite sides of the quilt center. Sew U strips to the top and bottom.

2. Sew V strips to opposite sides of the quilt. Sew W strips to the top and bottom to complete the quilt center.

3. Layer, quilt as desired and bind referring to Quilting Basics.
