COMPLETING THE BLOCKS

Chain Blocks

1. Sew together two each A and B squares as shown to make a four-patch unit. Make 256 (Figure 1).

2. Sew a C rectangle to a four-patch unit, noting the orientatio­n of the four-patch. Repeat with F rectangles. Make 64 each (Figure 2).

3. Sew a D rectangle and an H square to opposite sides of a four-patch unit, noting the orientatio­n of the four-patch. Repeat with an E square and a G rectangle. Make 64 each (Figure 3).

4. Referring to the Chain block diagram for placement, sew together one each of the four units made in steps 2 and 3 to complete a block. Make 64 Chain blocks.

Star Blocks

1. Refer to Half-Square Triangles on page 20 and use the I, J, K and L squares to make 320 I-J, 224 J-K, and 208 each I-L and

J-L HST units. Trim each unit to 21/2" x 21/2", keeping the diagonal seam centered in the corners (Figure 4).

2. Referring to the Aqua Star block diagram for placement and HST orientatio­n, arrange four each I-J, I-L and J-L HST units and four E squares into four rows of four. Sew into rows, then sew the rows together to complete a block. Make 52 Aqua Star blocks.

3. Referring to the White Star block diagram for placement and HST orientatio­n, arrange eight J-K and four I-J HST units and four H squares into four rows of four. Sew into rows, then sew the rows together to complete a block. Make 28 White Star blocks.

COMPLETING THE QUILT

1. Referring to the Assembly Diagram for block placement and orientatio­n, lay out the blocks into 12 rows of 12 blocks each, rotating the Chain blocks as needed to make up the red/pink diagonal chains.

2. Sew the blocks into rows and join the rows to complete the quilt top.

You may find it easier first to work in half rows, then join the half rows to make a quadrant, and then sew all four quadrants together. Press.

3. Layer, quilt as desired and bind referring to Quilting Basics. The photograph­ed quilt was custom-quilted with straight lines, swirls and feathers.
