WHAT’S UP WITH LEMON WATER?
These days, ask any group of people about their morning routines and there’s a good chance that someone will tell you that they start the day by drinking a glass of warm water with lemon. Why? Rumor has it that the bev can balance the body’s ph, fight off infections, and regulate digestion and blood circulation. None of that has been definitively proven by science, but there’s at least one known benefit: “Warm water with lemon has a health halo around it,” meaning a placebo effect, says New York City registered dietitian Tanya Zuckerbrot. “It can help jump-start healthy habits by motivating you to continue your healthy day.” Plus, drinking an extra glass of water—with lemon or not—gets you that much closer to your daily H2O goal.
