Critical Repairs To The Queen Mary Begin in February
LONG BEACH — The City of Long Beach is preparing to start critical repairs to the Queen Mary, with fencing being placed around the construction zone and staging areas prepared as of last week. In February, the city will begin the first phase of critical repairs, which are anticipated to be completed later this year, allowing the Queen Mary to reopen to the public.
The city regained control of the Queen Mary for the first time in over 40 years in June 2021. Since that time, with the help of marine engineering experts and based on previous studies, the city has designed the specifications and layouts for the required repairs, established milestones for the project and anticipates a completion date later this year. The estimated cost of the repairs will be approximately $5 million.
