Responding to Children in Need
Can we help kids in need? Sometimes when we look at the landscape of children living in the LA Harbor Area, it can seem overwhelming to try to improve the lives of the kids. It may seem like we’re not able to meet their needs. However, this is not true and to quote a common phrase: We can make a difference!
Before COVID-19, the statistics of youth dealing with depression and anxiety and struggling to progress was high. Since the season of COVID, our children and youth are even more weighed down by the isolation and lack of connection they have gone through. Many kids are struggling to connect with other people as well as trying to catch up academically after a lost year or more with no in-person school attendance. The nonprofit youth organizations, Freedom4U and Hearts Respond aim to improve the lives of children and youth in the South Bay and specifically the LA Harbor Area. We do this through programs in creative arts, life skills, leadership and service learning. I’m writing this letter to inform the community about an opportunity to help children at Point Fermin Elementary School, a local marine science magnet school, with 67%
