The Rap­pa­han­nock News, in con­tin­u­ing its tra­di­tion of hon­or­ing a per­son who serves the cit­i­zens of Rap­pa­han­nock County be­yond the call of duty, is ex­tremely proud to name W.A. Buntin as our Cit­i­zen of the Year for 1985. Mr. Buntin served this county as its sher­iff for two con­sec­u­tive terms be­gin­ning in 1975. He won both elec­tions in land­slide vic­to­ries. Be­fore be­gin­ning his du­ties as sher­iff, he was an of­fi­cer of the Vir­ginia State Po­lice for 29 years; all of his years in that ca­pac­ity were spent in ser­vice to this county. The Rap­pa­han­nock Plan­ning Com­mis­sion voted to rec­om­mend to the Rap­pa­han­nock Board of Zon­ing Ap­peals that the ap­pli­ca­tion of Dwight Frye and Charles Frye for a spe­cial use per­mit for a small used car lot on Route 211 near the Hills­dale Gro­cery be de­nied.
