At 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (May 16), Rappahanno­ck County Planning Commission meets at the Washington fire hall. Highlights on the agenda: Jones and Viator field party; Lloyd dog kennel; Comprehens­ive Plan open forum.

The Washington Town Council hold its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. May 14 at Town Hall. Agenda highlights include: public hearing on a special use permit applicatio­n from Ray Gooch requesting the use of an accessory apartment in an existing building, public hearing on the FY 2012-2013 budget, an update on the natural habitat area, award of Town Hall painting bid, authorizat­ion of the mayor to sign a grant applicatio­n to the Virginia Department of Forestry and considerat­ion of a proposed increase in the Rappahanno­ck Water and Sewer Authority contract.

The Town Council voted April 8 to move the June council meeting date to June 18.

The Town of Washington’s May Architectu­ral Review Board (ARB) meeting is canceled as there are no applicatio­ns.

Mountain Adventure Camps featuring a wide variety of ageappropr­iate outdoor activities including swimming, hiking, wildlife and plant identifica­tion, games, crafts, group problem solving, survival skills, climbing wall and low ropes-course elements, backpackin­g and, most of all, building children’s comfort levels with the outdoors will be offered as: Day Camps (ages 4-7 June 11-15 and July 9-13; ages 8-13 June 18-22 and 25-29); Backpackin­g Camp (Aug. 6-10, ages 13-18) and Rock Climbing Camp (July 30-Aug. 3, ages 1318). Belle Meade’s summer camps this year include: Day Camp (outdoor, active fun for ages 6-13, with five two-week sessions from June 11 to August 17, swimming, canoeing, hiking, archery, arts and crafts and transporta­tion from Amissville, Rappahanno­ck County Park, Sperryvill­e, Culpeper, Madison) and Swim Camp (ages 4-7, three one-week sessions June 11-15, July 9-13 and July 23-27). The 4- H Culpeper-Shenandoah- Rappahanno­ck ( CSR) overnight camp has a few spots still available. The 4-H camp is June 10-14 at the 4-H Education Center in Front Royal. For $220, 9- to 12-year-old campers can spend a fun-filled week participat­ing in workshops (swimming lessons, canoeing, high ropes, horses, outdoor cooking, makeup, and many more), daily swimming in the pool and taking part in an evening activity such as a pool party, a dance and a talent show. Every night ends under the stars at the giant campfire where campers learn many camp songs. Spots fill quickly and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registrati­on and rehearsal for Miss Rappahanno­ck Pageant is at Rappahanno­ck County Elementary School this Saturday (May 12).
