The fol­low­ing of­fices will be closed on Wed­nes­day (July 4) in ob­ser­vance of In­de­pen­dence Day: Rap­pa­han­nock County gov­ern­ment of­fices; Union First Mar­ket Bank, Wash­ing­ton; BB&T, Flint Hill; De­part­ment of Mo­tor Ve­hi­cles cus­tomer ser­vice cen­ters; U.S. Postal Ser­vice; Rap­pa­han­nock Rapidan Com­mu­nity Ser­vices trans­porta­tion ser­vices; and the Rap­pa­han­nock News, where early dead­lines are also in ef­fect for the July 5 edi­tion; all items for pub­li­ca­tion should be sub­mit­ted by 5 p.m. this Fri­day (July 29).

Rap­pa­han­nock County Board of Su­per­vi­sors meets at 2 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. (for a pub­lic hear­ing) on Mon­day (July 2) at the court­house on Gay Street. Agenda in­cludes: Tax Re­lief for the El­derly and Hand­i­capped Pro­gram; Re­gional Gen­eral Re­assess­ment Pro­ject; Haz­ard Mit­i­ga­tion Plan Adop­tion; up­date on RSW Re­gional Jail fi­nanc­ing; ru­ral rus­tic road des­ig­na­tion, Aaron Moun­tain Road (Route 622); do­na­tion form in tax bills; ad­mis­sions tax; in­surance cov­er­ages; em­ployee health in­surance work group; ap­point­ments to Wa­ter and Sewer Au­thor­ity, Farm­land Pro­tec­tion Com­mit­tee, Recre­ational Fa­cil­i­ties Au­thor­ity; Haskell, Kreb­ser and Thorn­ton River Agri­cul­tural and Fore­stal Dis­tricts re­newals (7 p.m.).

Rap­pa­han­nock County Wa­ter and Sewer Au­thor­ity meets at 5:30 p.m. Thurs­day (July 5) at the court­house on Gay Street.

The Town of Wash­ing­ton's reg­u­larly sched­uled July 9 coun­cil meet­ing has been moved to Mon­day, July 16, when the Town Coun­cil and the Plan­ning Com­mis­sion will hold a work ses­sion at 7 p.m. at Town Hall to re­view the draft Com­pre­hen­sive Plan. The Town Coun­cil meet­ing will im­me­di­ately fol­low the work ses­sion.
