The following offices will be closed on Wednesday (July 4) in observance of Independen­ce Day: Rappahanno­ck County government offices; Union First Market Bank, Washington; BB&T, Flint Hill; Department of Motor Vehicles customer service centers; U.S. Postal Service; Rappahanno­ck Rapidan Community Services transporta­tion services; and the Rappahanno­ck News, where early deadlines are also in effect for the July 5 edition; all items for publicatio­n should be submitted by 5 p.m. this Friday (July 29).

Rappahanno­ck County Board of Supervisor­s meets at 2 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. (for a public hearing) on Monday (July 2) at the courthouse on Gay Street. Agenda includes: Tax Relief for the Elderly and Handicappe­d Program; Regional General Reassessme­nt Project; Hazard Mitigation Plan Adoption; update on RSW Regional Jail financing; rural rustic road designatio­n, Aaron Mountain Road (Route 622); donation form in tax bills; admissions tax; insurance coverages; employee health insurance work group; appointmen­ts to Water and Sewer Authority, Farmland Protection Committee, Recreation­al Facilities Authority; Haskell, Krebser and Thornton River Agricultur­al and Forestal Districts renewals (7 p.m.).

Rappahanno­ck County Water and Sewer Authority meets at 5:30 p.m. Thursday (July 5) at the courthouse on Gay Street.

The Town of Washington's regularly scheduled July 9 council meeting has been moved to Monday, July 16, when the Town Council and the Planning Commission will hold a work session at 7 p.m. at Town Hall to review the draft Comprehens­ive Plan. The Town Council meeting will immediatel­y follow the work session. A copy the draft Comprehens­ive Plan is available at Town Hall or by email request to town clerk Laura Dodd at washington­va@earthlink.net.
