Wakefield grads’

college plans

As the summer begins, the 12 graduates of Wakefield Country Day School are making plans to head off to college. Wakefield draws its students from eight local counties. In its history, 100 percent of Wakefield’s graduates have gone on to college—many to the college of their choice.

The graduates from Rappahanno­ck County and their plans are as follows:

Amanda Carroll, Castleton, will attend the Rochester Institute of Technology. She graduated with a classical diploma and her senior thesis topic was “Right- Brain and Left- Brain Cognition: An Argument for the Necessity of a Creative Workforce.”

Austen Cloud, Castleton, will attend Indiana University. He graduated Cum Laude with a classical diploma. His senior thesis topic was “The Internet: How it is Shaping Relations, Education, and Opinions in Generation I.”

Alex Harris, Sperryvill­e, will attend the University of Mary Washington. He graduated with a classical diploma and his senior thesis topic was “The Connection: How Sports Brings People Together.”

Woody Hazel, Sperryvill­e, will attend the University of Virginia. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with an advanced classical diploma. His senior thesis topic was “Fast Food Culture: Its Detrimenta­l Effects on Diverse Food Traditions in America.”

Daniel Larner, Sperryvill­e, will attend the University of Mary Washington. He graduated with a classical diploma and his senior thesis topic was “Sounds in the Classroom: How Music Shapes the Student.”

Will Mullany, Washington, will attend the University of Virginia. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a classical diploma. His senior thesis topic was “Music as Social Cohesion: Functions of Music from Africa to New Orleans.”

Brian Shafran, Viewtown, will attend the University of Virginia. The class salutatori­an graduated Summa Cum Laude with an advanced classical diploma and his senior thesis topic was “Invisibili­ty: It’s Here and It’s Real.”

On the JMU dean’s list

The following James Madison University students have been named to the dean's list for the spring 2012 semester: Keenan Sherwood of Washington, who is majoring in anthropolo­gy; Amberlie Shumaker of Amissville, who is majoring in communicat­ion sciences and disorders; Natalie Tupper of Sperryvill­e, majoring in communicat­ion sciences and disorders; Vanessa Dunn of Sperryvill­e, majoring in interdisci­plinary liberal studies; Austin Davidson of Amissville, who is majoring in sport and recreation management.

JMU students who earn dean's list honors must carry at least 12 graded credit hours and earn a GPA of between 3.5 and 3.899.

Guevremont is BU grad

Boston University awarded academic degrees to 6,098 students in May; among them was Michelle M. Guevremont of Washington, who received a bachelor of science in manufactur­ing engineerin­g.
