Rappahannock Angus news
Courtney Logan Pooton of Sperryville is exhibiting cattle at the 2013 Mid-Atlantic Junior Angus Classic (MAJAC) regional Junior Angus Show in Harrisonburg, March 8-10. A junior member of the American Angus Association, Courtney is one of 228 young people from 15 states who have entered more than 400 Angus cattle to compete for championship honors.
Meanwhile, D. Brooke and Ann H. Miller, both of Washington, were recently recognized nationally by the American Angus Association for having five registered Angus cows and one registered Angus bull included in the association’s 2013 Pathfinder Report. Washington’s Hodge Miller had one registered cow included in the report, and Sperryville’s Elisabeth J. Jones had three registered Angus cows.
Only 1,992 of the more than 25,000 American Angus Association members are represented in this year’s report, according to Bill Bowman, chief operating officer and director of performance programs of the association, based in Saint Joseph, Mo. The Pathfinder program identifies superior Angus cows based on recorded performance traits that are economically important to efficient beef production. More than two million eligible dams with more than 6.8 million weaning records were examined to determine Pathfinder status.
Started in 1978, the Pathfinder Program continues to recognize outstanding breeders participating in the Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIR) Program.
