The VFD’s pageant is April 14
The Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department is holding their annual Honorary Fire Chief Pageant April 14, and would like to make us all aware of this great opportunity for the young ladies and younger men, too. Sign-ups for the pageant are 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 11, 13, 18, 20, 22 and 29, upstairs in the fire department’s banquet hall. Pageant practice is 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 11 for all participants.
A sign-up fee of $30 will be collected for each contestant and also includes the participants’ entry in the photogenic contest; all contestants are asked to bring a self-portrait to sign-ups for this reason. The pageant is open to all those living within a 50-mile radius of the fire department, except for those wishing to enter the Miss Honorary Fire Chief category, as those contestants must live within the fire department’s first-due area in either Warren or Rappahannock counties.

The categories for entry by age are as follows: Baby Miss, birth-23 months (Sunday Best); Wee Miss, ages 23 (Sunday Best); Tiny Miss, 4-6; Little Miss, 7-9; Baby Mister: birth-23 months (Sunday Best); Wee Mister: ages 2-3; Tiny Mister, 4-6 (Sunday Best); Little Mister, 7-9 (Sunday Best); Preteen Miss, 10-12; Junior Miss, 13-15; Miss, 16-21; Sr. Miss, 18-28 Ms., 29 and older.
Easter egg hunt and breakfast
The fire department hosts an Easter egg hunt and breakfast from 8 to 11 on March 28. The one and only Easter Bunny is attending, and Feathers Photography is on hand to capture and offer pictures of your precious little ones with Mr. Bunny! There will be a special zoned off area just for the littlest egg seekers to hunt and search in as well, so all ages can enjoy the morning. As for breakfast itself, friends, do I need to even tell you how good the food will be that morning? I didn’t think so, friends; I figured you’d all remember the other great breakfasts and dinners from before, and the department’s fundraising committee promises that we’ll see a lot more of the same this year. Mark your calendars and I’ll look for ya there!
Celebrating her special day
Last Saturday ( March 2) Mrs. Virgie Ubben celebrated her 73rd birthday surrounded by friends and family. She was surprised with a party in her honor at the fire department banquet hall – where, including herself, four generations of her family were in attendance. She enjoyed herself catching up with old school and childhood friends and spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as her own children who showered her with gifts and appreciation for the lifetime of love and dedication to her family. She said she truly enjoyed herself and sent thanks to all of those who came to help her celebrate her birthday!
