The Rappahannock County Elementary School playground, a year-long work-inprogress, has been updated with a map of the world and a compass rose, reports project coordinator Rachel Bynum:

We had a good turnout and two beautiful afternoons for painting on Friday (March 21) and Saturday (March 22).

Thank you so much to all the wonderful painting volunteers! The 11 adults who painted this time were Jen Perrot, Linda Petty, Renee Athelli, Sarah Moore, Reuben Liebe, Kyra Howell, Steve Howell, Lynnie Genho, Nora Fletcher, Janet Davis and myself.

The 13 kids who helped out were Olivia Devening, Nicholas Plaksin, Isaac Plaksin, Ava Genho, Nathan Genho, Mason Howell, Lilly Howell, Daniel Fletcher, Lilly Jenkins, Neveah Hopkins, Camden Shanks, Alec Petty and Nick Barnes.

Thank you for the support of school staff, especially prin- cipal Cathy Jones and Beth Seeley, for facilitating this fun and educational project. Thank you also to the PTO for your support and funding of this project, and for helping to provide snacks to our crew.

I’ve really enjoyed organizing the painting projects, part of the second phase of work on our playground. Hopefully next spring will bring more painting fun, with possibly our state and county maps appearing on the blacktop.
