WILLIAM CARSON “BUCK” UTZ

WILLIAM CARSON “BUCK” UTZ went to be with the Lord on May 29, 2014, after his brave battle with melanoma cancer.

Buck was born William Carson Utz on June 28, 1944, at the Utz home in Estes, Virginia, located in Rappahanno­ck County.

He is the son of Thomas Herbert and Ressie Whorton Utz.

In 1956, the Utz family moved to Haymarket, Virginia and Buck attended Osbourn High School where he played the bass drum in the school marching band. In October of 1963 Buck met Rose Marie Tabor at an auction where she was employed as a clerk and two weeks later, he proposed. Next month on June 19th they would have celebrated their 50th Anniversar­y.

Buck surrendere­d his heart to the Lord on March 26, 1975 and then dedicated his life to ministerin­g to inmates in prisons in Prince William & Fairfax County-a place where he said he could have easily landed but for the grace of God. Buck was a skilled brick mason and was employed by George Key for many years, but then went into business with Ivan Sisk and they owned and operated “Little Job Masonry.” For the past eleven years Buck has been employed by Prince William County Schools where he loved his job and his co-workers.

Buck is survived by his loving wife, Rose; one son, Thomas C. Utz and his wife Donna; and one daughter, Chantel and her husband Pastor Wes Beahm. Buck is also survived by three grandchild­ren: Brandon Utz and his wife, Melissa; Priscilla Utz Reese and her husband, Brandon; and Lauren Beahm Long and her husband, Aaron. Buck is survived by five great-grandchild­ren: Dayne, Felicity and Brody Utz along with Ryder and Chloe Long with Addison comming in October. In addition to many friends and extended family, Buck is also survived by three sisters and one brother: Evelyn Pullen, Lois Whorton, and “Etta” (Glenna) Buchanan and her husband Jerry; and brother, Donald Utz. He is also survived by his sister-inlaw, Shirley Utz and brother-in-law, Joel Grizzle.

In addition to his parents, Buck was preceded by his brothers- Menefee, Sonny and “Dick” (Harold Ray) and by his sister, Ann Grizzle.

A celebratio­n of Buck´s life was held Sunday, June 1, 2014, at 6pm at the Life Church located at 11234 Balls Ford Rd in Manassas, Virginia. There was a viewing at 5pm and a reception will follow the service in the church Foyer.
