Warrenton lawyer arrested again

Former Warrenton lawyer Lorenzo Lee Bean III has been arrested again for embezzlement, this time by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Bean, 62, turned himself in early this month on a single charge of embezzlement greater than or equal to $200. He was released by a Loudoun magistrate on a personal recognizance bond, according to Kraig Troxell, public information officer for the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Bean was arrested in 2014 and held on $50,000 bond on six counts of embezzlement and one count of money laundering in Fauquier County. In January 2015, he was also charged with two counts of making false statements on his tax returns from 2010 and 2011.

The Virginia State Bar revoked Bean's license to practice law in March.

The 2014 charges stem from a three-year representation of Clarence Butler. Bean allegedly was hired by Butler to help with financial matters. Search warrants revealed that Bean’s billing records were for $65,000 of billable work. But Butler’s records revealed more than $140,000 in checks had been written to Bean from January 2010 to June 2013.

Virginia State Police began investigating Bean in March 2014 and he was arrested on Aug. 29, 2014.

On April 1, Bean’s own team of lawyers filed a motion to withdraw as his counsel citing a “conflict of interest” that could not be disclosed because of attorney-client privilege.

Bean has a hearing scheduled in Fauquier County for Aug. 21 and in Loudoun County on Sept. 25.
