The July meeting of the Rappahannock County Board of Zoning Appeals ( scheduled for July 22) is cancelled.
Due to scheduling conflicts, the Rappahannock County School Board meeting is moved from the second to the third Tuesday this month. The meeting is 6 p.m. next Tuesday (July 21) at the high school band room. Agenda available at rappahannockschools.us.
Comfort and Knit Wit’s Art Camp is Aug. 3-7, 1 to 4:30 each afternoon. Campers will make a variety of art projects using natural fibers, paint, found objects and more. Fee is $225 per camper. The Phoenix Scholarship is offered to an enrolled college student who has completed one year toward their degree. The student must be a permanent resident of either Culpeper or Rappahannock counties and in need of financial assistance to continue a course of study leading to the completion of a degree, associate’s degree or professional certification at any accredited institution. Applications are available from high school guidance offices or from the foundation’s scholarship committee members (Linda Murphy, 540-547-2589; Helen Williams, 540-937-4279; Pam Oliver, 540547-2119; or Sanford Reaves, 540-547-4210). Deadline for applications is next Wednesday (July 22).
Mountain Laurel Montessori School in Front Royal and Flint Hill offers nine weeks of Summer Discovery Camps for ages 2½ to 12 through Aug. 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with options for before- and after-care and half-day programs. Visit mountainlaurelmontessori.org for more information.

Thanks to a Make It Happen grant, 4-H is offering day trips for 8- to 14-year-olds this summer, including to Splashdown Water Park (Aug. 4, $25 per day); 4-H Education Center, Hiking and Swimming, July 21 ($15). To register (at least two weeks in advance), return completed forms to the Extension office (311-J Gay St./PO Box 119, Washington, VA 22747); completed 4-H enrollment packets and paid registration fees are needed for confirmation. Bus transport provided from Rappahannock County Elementary School’s auxiliary gym, where programs begin at 9 a.m. Parents/ guardians must pick up their children at the gym each evening at 5 p.m. Participants will need to bring a bag lunch, water, sunscreen, swimsuit/dry clothing, towel and money for snacks (optional). Please leave all electronic devices at home. If rain is forecasted to take place on the day of a trip, the program will be cancelled the day before the event and full refunds will be given. The 4-H Culpeper-Shenandoah-Rappahannock Overnight Camp is July 26-30 at the 4-H Ed Center for 9- to 13-year-olds who’ll spend five days and four nights swimming, canoeing, horseback riding, dancing and performing in the talent show and ending each day at the campfire circle.
