Dodson receives nursing degree
Brittani Renee Dodson received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Shenandoah University on May 9.
While at Shenandoah University, Brittani was named to the dean’s list throughout all four years and graduated magna cum laude. She was also inducted into numerous honor societies including Alpha Lambda Delta, Virginia Iota Chapter of Alpha Chi, Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing and Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Society. She also held the leadership role of president for SU’s Student Nurses Association chapter during the 2014 school year.
In March 2013, Brittani was selected to travel abroad through the Global Citizenship Program at Shenandoah, which allows students to gain cultural insight and experience cross-disciplinary networking. Following this trip, she returned to Panama three times to volunteer in various orphanages throughout the country. In addition to traveling abroad, Brittani volunteered with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Winchester, where she mentored two little sisters.
During her last semester, Brittani was selected as an honoree for “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges,” for which college seniors are selected by a committee of administrators, teachers and students based on scholarship, leadership, citizenship and participation in academic and extracurricular activities.
Brittani is the daughter of David and Sharon Dodson of Sperryville and is a 2011 graduate of Rappahannock County High School. She has accepted a position at the UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville, as a Registered Nurse in the Neonatal ICU, and is eager to begin her career at an amazing facility.
WCDS STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN SUMMER LEARNING
Summer is here, but among the Wakefield Country Day School taking advantage of their free time by extending their studies are Rappahannock residents Carolina Leonard and Harmony Lindstrom.
Rising senior Leonard will be attending the Virginia Governor’s School Latin Academy this month, having applied and been accepted into the competitive program earlier this year. The course is for students who have excelled in the study of Latin and allows participants to study it intensively for three weeks in a residential setting. She will also have the opportunity to study classical Greek.
Finally, rising 10th-grader Lindstrom attended an animal and veterinary science camp in June as part of the Michigan State Pre-Vet Program in East Lansing. The program allows the students to experience numerous hands-on learning activities. Throughout the week-long session, participants work their way through a veterinary science case study as a team and create a presentation to be critiqued by veterinarians.
R-MA HONORS LATHAM, MARTYN
During the end-of-year ceremonies, Ryan Latham of Amissville was among the Randolph-Macon Academy (R-MA) students recognized for various academic achievements. Latham received the Certificate of Outstanding Performance in Honors Biology as well as the Certificate of Outstanding Performance in Honors English 9. He is the son of Stephen and Dawn Latham of Amissville and was a freshman at R-MA during the 2014-15 school year.
R-MA junior Brendan Martyn of Huntly earned "Bronze Standard" on the National German Exam in May. Brendan is the son of Elizabeth Kauffmann of Huntly and Tony Martyn of Fayetteville, N.C.
