➤ Rappahannock County School Board meets at 5 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 8) in the high school band room. The meeting begins with a joint session between the Headwaters Board and the School Board. ➤ The following are closed Monday (Sept. 7) in observance of Labor Day, reopening Tuesday: Rappahannock County government offices, Rappahannock County Public Schools, Union First Market & Trust, Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services transportation, BB&T in Flint Hill, Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and the Rappahannock News (which has early deadlines for the Sept. 10 edition; all items for publication should be submitted no later than 3 p.m. Friday Sept. 4).
➤ Do you love to sing? We do! Come join us at Bel Canto. Directed by Lauren Estes and accompanied by Fay Utz, our group meets on Tuesday nights at Piedmont Episcopal Church in Madison. It is an auditioned mixed-voice community chamber choir that sings a wide variety of repertoire ranging in character from the silly to the sublime. Members of our group come from the surrounding counties and meet from September to January for a winter concert, and March to June for a summer concert. We are looking for one soprano, one alto, two to three tenors and one bass. Auditions are 7-9 p.m. Sept. 15 at Piedmont Episcopal Church (214 Church Street, Madison). ➤ The Blue Ridge Chorale, a community chorus serving Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock counties, begins its fall/winter season soon. The first rehearsal for the youth chorus, under Cathy ter Weele's direction, is 5:45 p.m. Monday (Sept. 7) at Open Door Baptist. It is non-auditioned and open to all who love to sing. ➤ Warrenton Chorale, 341 Church Street, is continuing to recruit members for its youth chorale. They welcome singers aged 9 and up to join them for a wonderful program of uplifting and joyful music for the season. ➤ Culpeper NAACP hosts a bus ride to the Million Man March 20th Anniversary to Washington, D.C., on Oct. 10 (refreshments will be served). Tickets are $35; deadline to sign up is Sept. 17. Bus leaves Culpeper Library at 6:30 a.m. and departs D.C. at 5 p.m., with a stop to eat on the way home; it arrives in Culpeper at about 9:30 p.m. For more, visit naacpculpeper.com.
➤ Piedmont Softball Association is now accepting
registrations for all area girls ( born 1996-2009) at all skill levels interested in its fast-pitch programs this fall. Registration is $40 for those who did not play with PSA this past spring ($5 discount for each additional player from the same household). ➤ Blue Ridge Singers seek vocalists interested in performing fun and challenging repertoire. Based in Front Royal, the BRS rehearses Tuesday evenings and presents in three counties.
