David Marshall Dwyer

David Marshall Dwyer, 85, of Sperryvill­e passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Blue Ridge Hospice. “Dave Marshall” was born April 6, 1930 in Rappahanno­ck County to the late David Dwyer and the late Nina Bowen Dwyer.

Dave spent much of his life championin­g the work of Alcoholics Anonymous. He worked as an addictions counselor and founded the Washington, Virginia AA group. Dave was so grateful to be able to give back to his community by his active support of numerous area AA groups and activities. In November 2014 Dave celebrated 40 years of sobriety.

He was veteran of the Korean War, serving in both the U. S. Army and Air Force. After his military service he worked for some time as a tree surgeon.

Dave is survived by his beloved sister, Ruby Dwyer, and many nieces, nephews and step-children.

He is preceded in death by three sisters, Anne Dwyer, Rebecca Shade and “Sally” Keyser. He is also survived by his friend and former wife, Eileen Day.

The Dwyer family would like to give special thanks to Lisa Day Eiland and the staff at Blue Ridge Hospice for the compassion and care they showed to Dave, and to all of his AA friends who have so faithfully supported him.
