Happy (and Hoppy) ‘Yeaster’

- JAN CLATTERBUCK jan@rappnews.com; 675-3338

About 70 kids hunted for Easter eggs last weekend in Sperryville, part of Pen Druid Brewing and Hopkins Ordinary Aleworks’ “Yeaster” event. Flourish Root, Wild Roots Apothecary and Heritage Hollow Farms sponsored the hunt... using eco-friendly eggs, of course!

The best indication of spring’s arrival was this past Easter weekend — a time for family and fellowship, and children’s search for eggs; a time of sunrise services and enjoying the warmth in the air.

Every family looks forward to an Easter gathering. For Mary and Melvin Gochenour of Front Royal, they celebrated with family on Sunday. According to Mary’s mother (Anna Clatterbuck), the food was good and everyone had a wonderful time.

Those from the Washington area that enjoyed the Easter dinner were Anna Clatterbuck, Mae Racer, and Hope and Danny Huff. Mary is originally from Washington, and her fondest memories still lead her to the home place where she was raised in Harris Hollow. These are moments we can cherish for years to come. Let’s make it important to enjoy such moments with our family and friends, not only for the holidays, but every day.

A SUCCESSFUL HUNT

For more than 27 years, it’s been a tradition for Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue to organize and host an Easter egg hunt the Saturday before Easter. And so it was again this year. It’s free and open to all children.

One could not ask for a more beautiful day as the children waited patiently for the 11 a.m. start. About 100 kids, armed with baskets and bags, rushed into the field to hunt for brightly colored plastic eggs filled with candy. Some eggs even contained a slip to claim a stuffed animal toy prize. All the kids also received a firefighter plastic helmet with candy. That same morning, WVFR also cooked an all-you-caneat breakfast buffet. The Easter Bunny made a special appearance which made the kids very excited.

Can you guess who the big bunny was? I’ll never tell, but I can say that he remembers to hop by every year for WVFR’s Easter egg hunt.

CEMETERY MOWING

I had a phone call on Monday morning from one of the trustees of the Washington Masonic Cemetery LLC. They would appreciate it if the flowers would be removed from the cemetery. They are going to start the mowing on Saturday. For more information, call George Glavis at 540-636-3802 or Arthur Candenquist at 540937-7444.

BIRTHDAY WISHES

Birthday wishes go out to Andrew Burke who will celebrate his day on April 4; my friend, Lois Alther, who will celebrate her special day on April 6 and Clyde Pullen, who’ll celebrate on April 12. To my wonderful granddaughter, Allie Fox, a happy 19th birthday on April 16.

CONDOLENCES

Condolences go out to Roger Foster of Washington, on the death of his son Kenneth Lee Foster Sr., 51, of Sperryville. Mr. Foster passed away on March 15. A funeral service was held March 21 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, Culpeper. Interment followed at Washington Masonic Cemetery.

We all have lost loved ones in our lives. Looking back on times of loss, the ache is still there for some of us. May you find that the constant love of your friends and family will soften your sadness. May every cherished memory bring you moments of comfort, may peace surround your grieving heart. Yes, death leaves a heartache that no one can heal, but remember that love will always leave you memories that no one can take away.

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.”

— Lisa Beamer. Have a wonderful week!
