Sperryville
The lemonade brigade rides again
According to Taiya Smith, “after last year’s success, a crew from Slate Mills ( the oldest is 8) is ready to hold their second annual Rappahannock Lemonade Stand. Please join Corwen, Seri, Tilman, Afton, Sylvie, Thea, Callen and Declan (other kids welcome to join in) in their adventure in entrepreneurship!”
Smith says the lemonade stand will be open two days only, 4 to 6 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, Aug. 12) and 2 to 5p.m. Saturday (Aug. 13) in their new location — at Sperryville’s Pen Druid Brewing. Three kinds of lemonade, homemade ice cream sandwiches and a special "Read You a Story" ( your book or theirs) will be on offer
I had the pleasure of meeting with some of these adorable kids, sugar- coated entrepreneurs all, and they shared their mission and their thoughts. Can you see my smile? It hasn’t left my face and I’ve been long back home after meeting with them. Corwen appeared to be the man of the moment and discussed with great brevity his passion: “We want to share the money earned to help people and animals, like the lemurs . . . and the endangered blue whales, for example.” Sylvie chimed in: “We want to help the homeless.” And little Callen wants to help the whale that was stuck in the fishing net. Thea talked too of having three jars at home — one for saving, one for giving and one for spending.
When asked why they decided to hold the lemonade stand at Pen Druid, Seri, Sylvie, Corwen and Thea said they thought it would be a place with lots of people. Please join them not only as customers but they are asking for more children to join in and have a lemonade team effort in play. Good luck to all of you in your entrepreneurial venture; I know for sure it will be a success.
