Salem Foun­da­tion awards

The Salem Ed­u­ca­tion Foun­da­tion dis­trib­uted $17,444 in schol­ar­ships and awards dur­ing 2016. The foun­da­tion of­fers schol­ar­ships to stu­dents in Culpeper and Rap­pa­han­nock coun­ties each year. For the past five years they have also rec­og­nized the pos­i­tive im­pact of ed­u­ca­tors on the suc­cess of stu­dents with an award to the Teacher of the Year in Culpeper County and the re­cip­i­ent of the Above and Beyond award in Rap­pa­han­nock.

In 2016, one schol­ar­ship was awarded to a grad­u­ate of Rap­pa­han­nock County High School. Han­nah Ben­nett re­ceived the Thorn­hill Fam­ily Schol­ar­ship.

In 2016, two stu­dents from Culpeper County High School re­ceived schol­ar­ships. The Bill Kyle Me­mo­rial Schol­ar­ship was awarded to Alexis Bates. Jor­dan Fin­cham re­ceived the Bill and Mary Strother Al­phin Ed­u­ca­tion Schol­ar­ship. Four Eastern View High School grad­u­ates were awarded schol­ar­ships. The Gallo Crim­i­nal Jus­tice Schol­ar­ship went to Wy­att Fet­tig. Re­becca Kanaga re­ceived the “Big” Kenny Al­phin Mu­sic Schol­ar­ship. The Simms Mus­tian Ed­u­ca­tion Schol­ar­ship went to Mary Linn. The Ian and Mary Lou Phillips Lead­er­ship Schol­ar­ship was awarded to Mitchell Luck­in­bill.

The foun­da­tion also of­fers schol­ar­ships to stu­dents who have com­pleted some post­sec­ondary ed­u­ca­tion, have an es­tab­lished aca­demic record and need fi­nan­cial as­sis­tance to con­tinue their stud­ies. This year’s re­cip­i­ents of the Phoenix schol­ar­ship funds in­clude David Be­lyea, Ashli Jami­son and Zeb Weak­ley.

In recog­ni­tion of the ded­i­cated work and the pos­i­tive in­flu­ence of ed­u­ca­tors in the suc­cess of stu­dents, the 2016 ed­u­ca­tor awards were pre­sented to Khaled El Nemr from Culpeper County and Beth Gall from Rap­pa­han­nock County.
