➤ The RAPPAHANNOCK BOARD OF SUPERVISORS special meeting on Thursday, Sept. 21, at 10 a.m. at the Rappahannock County Visitors Center, 3 LIbrary Road, Washington. Agenda includes: Discussion and potential action surrounding agreement between Rappahannock County and the Rappahannock Athletic Association, Inc., for property in Amissville known as Stuart Field. Closed meeting, a discussion and consideration of prospective candidates for employment and discussion or consideration of the disposition of publicly held real property, where discussion in an open meeting would adversely affect the bargaining position or negotiating strategy of the public body, in closed meeting.
➤ The Town of Washington’s PLANNING COMMISSION meets on Monday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. Highlights from the agenda include review of Town Council’s Approval of Comprehensive Plan, review of Proposed Letter to Town Council, and assessment of Planning Commission’s Next Steps.

➤ Join us for a Sunday afternoon get-together on Sunday, Oct. 8, at 2 p.m. at the Washington Fire Hall with the Rappahannock News, Foothills Forum, Aging Together and Rapp at Home to discuss and assess the findings of “A TROUBLING DIAGNOSIS,” the recent threepart explanatory journalism series published in The News. Researcher/reporter Randy Rieland, your neighbors and the partnering nonprofits will open up this effort to give every voice a seat at the table. Local officials, experts and residents quoted in the series have been invited.

➤ Players are now being accepted by PIEDMONT SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION for its fall 2017 season. Piedmont offers fastpitch softball programs that stress improvement, confidence, fun, and sportsmanship to all area girls. Teams will be formed for all age groups in which there is enough interest. Girls born anytime in the years from 1998 through 2011 are welcome, as are all skill levels from experienced to beginners. Player incentives are given for fall 2017 registrations; scholarships are available, as well.
