- Wayne Lee Murphy

Wayne Lee Murphy, 85, of Front Royal, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 12, 2018. Born on December 5, 1932 in Frederick County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Marguerite Willey Murphy and Lee Wilson Murphy. Wayne served in the US Navy and started his career as a heavy equipment operator for T.R. Patterson shortly after his honorable discharge from the Navy. While continuing his work as a heavy equipment operator, he opened a service station called National Park Service Station on N. Royal and Chester Street. He later owned and operated a station called Murphy's Service Center at the South Fork Bridge, until he sold the business in 1999. Not liking the sedentary lifestyle of retirement, he went to work for Jim Morris operating heavy equipment until retirement. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #829, a Charter Member of the BPO Elks Lodge #2382 and a member of the NRA. Wayne loved to go dancing with his loving companion, Frances Woodward. He enjoyed many evenings conversing with his friends at the Moose Lodge. Spending time in his garden was his favorite pastime. He loved to work the garden and took pride in the planting and growing of fruits and vegetables. Many a day you would find him there soaking in its peacefulne­ss while smoking a cigar. He is survived by two sons and a daughter, Terry Murphy (Beth), Shari Blake (Jeff) and Gary Murphy (Barbara); grandsons, Curtis Blake, David Blake (Crystal) and Benjamin Murphy; six great grandchild­ren, one great great grandchild; two sisters Beatrice Oakes and Charlotte Murphy; brother, Roy Murphy; two sisters-in-law, Nadene Murphy and Diane Murphy; half-sister, Karen Murphy all of Front Royal and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie Ree Dodson Murphy; sister, Betty Hoynoski and brothers, Ralph Murphy, William Murphy and Ray Murphy. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 2 P.M. at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 West Main Street, Front Royal with Sammy Campbell officiatin­g. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will immediatel­y follow the service at Panorama Memorial Gardens on Strasburg Road. Pallbearer­s will be Curtis Blake, David Blake, Zachery Blake, Bruce Murphy, Darryl Murphy and Ricky Oakes. Honorary Pallbearer­s will be Jim Morris, Emmit Duncan, Chuck Whorton, and all of Wayne's nieces and nephews.
