Lucia Zeigler Kilby
Lucia Zeigler Kilby, 93, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2019 in Harrisonburg where she resided at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community. Lucia was born October 5, 1925 in Ashburn, Georgia to the late Ola Jackson Zeigler and Mary Moore Stoneburner Zeigler. She was predeceased in 1996 by her beloved husband Irvin R. Kilby of Sperryville, Virginia, who was a World War II veteran, orchardist, and farmer. Lucia grew up in Edinburg, Virginia and attended Edinburg High School. After graduating from Madison College in 1946, she earned a Masters in Dietetics at the Ohio State University, where she met her future husband. The two married and made their home in Sperryville, where she served as an elementary school teacher and librarian for many years. Remembered as an active leader in the local community, Lucia was a member of the Rappahannock Garden Club, Sperryville Bridge Club, Rappahannock Historical Society, and the Culpeper chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a member of F.T. Baptist Church in Sperryville where she served as Treasurer and Sunday school teacher. Her hobbies included genealogical research, sewing, reading, and caring for her many cats and dogs. Lucia is survived by two devoted children: a son, William I. Kilby of Harrisonburg with his wife Jean, and a daughter, Mary K. Robertson with her husband Arthur. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Christina A. Kilby, James A. Robertson III, and Marie C. Lunde, and by three great-grandchildren, Clara, Clementine, and Benjamin. A memorial service will take place at F.T. Baptist Church at a later date.
