The PLANNING COMMISSION of the Town of Washington will meet on Monday, June 24, at 7 p.m. at Town Hall. Highlights from the agenda include a discussion of whether placement of a Conservati­on Easement on four parcels (approx. 41 acres) at 30 Mount Prospect Lane (20A-1-58, 20A-158a, 29-1 and 29-1a) is consistent with the town’s comprehens­ive plan.

JULY FOURTH CLOSINGS: All Rappahanno­ck County government offices and Rappahanno­ck News will be closed Thursday and Friday, July 4, and 5, reopening Monday, July 8. Also closed Thursday and reopening Friday, is Atlantic Union Bank and BB&T.

The Amissville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company is currently SEEKING CONTESTANT­S: Queen (ages 14-20) , Junior Miss (ages 8-13) , and Little Miss (ages 3-7) for its carnival to be held June 26-29. The RAPPAHANNO­CK COUNTY DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE monthly meeting will be on Saturday, July 13, at the Washington Town Hall, 485 Gay St., Washington. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. for coffee and conversati­on. Meeting starts at 10 a.m. All are welcome! FOSTER PARENT TRAINING (PRIDE) will be offered June 26, and July 10, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at RappU in Sperryvill­e. Open enrollment is available on RappU's website or you can contact Rappahanno­ck DSS to enroll. The course is free of charge, dinner will be provided, as well as childcare with notice. The RAPPAHANNO­CK EXTENSION OFFICE invites all to attend a series of in-orchard meetings scheduled for July. Meet at the host orchard at 11 a.m. for a tour of the orchard, followed by a discussion of current orchard management recommenda­tions. Virginia Cooperativ­e Extension, Culpeper County is offering a Pressure Canning Workshop on June 26, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 101 S. West Street, Culpeper. Participan­ts will learn how to can vegetables using a pressure canner. Class cost is $25 and registrati­on deadline is June 21. Class size is 8.
