Orlean, Hume to grid?
Our many Rappahannock News subscribers in Orlean and Hume take note: the 21st century could soon be heading your way.
The Fauquier County Board of Supervisors this past week authorized the county administrator to begin negotiations to provide broadband services to the “unserved and underserved” areas just across the Rappahannock County line.
The county is in the process of accepting public comment and submitting an application under the state’s Virginia Telecommunications Incentive Program to provide Comcast fiber to 347 underserved homes and farms in Orlean. The application, if successful, could yield up to $3 million in state funding and would require a $500,000 match from both Comcast and the county.
In addition, the county has partnered with Data Stream, the County Economic Development Authority and the PATH Foundation to bring better technologies to Hume.
