Background: I originally came to Virginia in 1968 and moved here in 1974. I am a mother and a grandmother. I consider myself a solid conservative. I have a business degree, which I put to use as owner and operator of The Greenfield Inn and a small vineyard. I have chaired many charitable committees.
RappNews: What is the most urgent issue facing the county now?
Regnery: The county lacks leadership on the Board of Supervisors. Because the Board is often mired in trivial and self-serving issues, it often fails to address the challenges that face the county currently and anticipate the challenges of the future. Meetings are often unfocused, unproductive, and uncivil, leading to failure for the Board to deal with the problems at hand.
RN: What in your background and experience would help address that?
Regnery: I am well organized, attend to details, expect results, and work collaboratively with others. I am not afraid to take on difficult challenges, as my life story attests — I have worked as a hairdresser, ditch digger for a telephone company, and a welder, all to raise my family. Setting goals and working hard to achieve them has always been a part of my life and it’s what’s needed now on the Board of Supervisors. I speak up for what I believe in, and I do not have interests that take me outside the county.
RN: What do you see as the responsibilities of county supervisors?
Regnery: To protect the rights of all citizens of Rappahannock; protect the fiscal integrity of the county; ensure that all government spending and taxes are as low as possible; preserve the physical beauty, the heritage and environmental integrity of the county; plan and implement cost-effective, market-based programs that will ensure population growth and economic development, and that make positive contributions to the general welfare of the community; assure the needs of the community are met in the most costeffective way possible, both for households and businesses, currently and in the future; attend meetings and be accessible to constituents at all times — on weekdays as well as weekends.
RN: Why do you want to serve as a supervisor?
Regnery: I want to make a difference for all the citizens of Rappahannock, to serve and to be their voice, to get the things done in the community that will make Rappahannock a better place to live, and work. I believe we can make the Board of Supervisors more proactive and responsive to the needs of Rappahannock citizens.
RN: What would you like to accomplish as a supervisor?
Regnery: Along with other members of the Board, I would like to build a strong productive governing body that will anticipate challenges and work collaboratively to find actionable solutions to the challenges facing Rappahannock.
