The reach of the Inn
e Inn at Little Washington is Rappahannock County’s largest business; it generates the bulk of the taxes on which the Town of Washington depends. e Inn’s story of growth and transformation began with the 1978 remake of a gas station into what’s now the only U.S. Michelin ree Star restaurant on the East Coast outside New York City. e Inn’s size and success may have turned Washington into “a company town,” but most of the its acreage is occupied by private homes, other commercial properties, and structures associated with Washington’s role as the county seat. e Inn’s current plans for expansion and diversification are expected to remain largely within the enterprise’s current footprint.
