Wilbur Lee Glascock

-

Wilbur Lee Glascock, 65 of Amissville, VA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. He was born September 7, 1957, the son of William (Bill) Glascock and Ruth P. Glascock, predeceased; grew up in Amissville, VA and continued living in the community of Culpeper County for years as the business owner of Glascock’s Carpet Shop.

He is survived by his two sons, Wilbur (Lee) Glascock, II of Virginia Beach, VA, and Morgan Lee Glascock of Denver, CO; two grandchildren, Jordan Lee Glascock and Arya Denise Glascock of Virginia Beach, VA; siblings, Anne (Bill) Zeiher of Ashburn, VA, Kenneth (Colleen) Glascock of Amissville, VA, and Carolyn Glascock of Front Royal, VA; one nephew, one great-nephew; one great-niece; and many cousins.

Upon the early age of 47, Wilbur retired in 2005 and moved to Myrtle Beach, SC which had been his dream for years. We are thankful that Wilbur lived interesting and happy years in his loved area of sun, sand, and fun. Wilbur never knew a stranger. He made friends easily wherever he was, including with animals. His easy going demeanor and inner pleasantness was like a magnet to humans and animals alike. If you met Wilbur, you instantly liked him, and would enjoy his honesty, quick humor, and non-judgmental persona. If you needed a helping hand, he was there for that also, regardless of being a stranger or friend.

In his younger years when his sons were growing up, Wilbur was involved in sponsoring and coaching the Culpeper Youth Little Leagues for baseball and football. He was an avid player himself and continued his influence with the sport assisting the youth of Culpeper. He was a great father and spent weekends taking his sons and their friends to camp out every weekend at his camper in Colonial Beach, VA.

Wilbur was also a music enthusiast. He played guitar and other instruments. He taught himself how to play guitar on the afternoon of the Christmas day he received his guitar, when he was about the age of 10 or 11, listening to “Bad Moon Rising” repeatedly, and had the melody and chords down on the same day. And of course the famous and popular tune of “Peter Gun” from the James Bond movies that is still popular with all generations. He was also a “sound man technician” for local bands. He played music with his friends around Culpeper and had a great voice. Although he was shy about singing, when he was constantly prodded and convinced to sing, he would belt out songs of Waylon Jennings, Chuck Berry, and Jerry Lee Lewis. “Good Golly Miss Molly,” would pop out of the shy part of his personality, including funny lyrics he would make up because he had forgotten the words of the song. We hope you had the opportunity to hear him sometime. We know if you were around Wilbur, you definitely had the opportunity to roll laughing, as he was quick witted and comical with his friendly personality.

Wilbur returned to the Culpeper area in 2018 when he became ill with cancer. He never once complained about the immense discomfort and pain that he was in. We are thankful we could be with him as a family, and even more thankful that his painful journey with cancer is over and he is now free from pain, in peace and happiness, with a new body, and with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
