RC Car Action

BEHIND THE WHEEL

I had the chance to test the Tenacity-t’s brother: the SCT version of this platform. One thing I can attest to with the TEN platform is its durability of suffering some of the worst crashes and hard landings and coming away unscathed.

With that said, Losi RTR vehicles are pain-free when it comes to “out of the box and on with the bashing.” All I had to do is charge my Dynamite Reaction 3S 5000mah Lipo test battery and go. The battery will be the only thing you need to supply. The Tenacity-t comes with a 14-tooth pinion installed, designed to be run with a 2S Lipo battery, but if you run a 3S Lipo, the manual recommends you run the supplied 12-tooth pinion gear so that you don’t overheat the electronics. With that squared away, I headed to the local park for some shakedown runs. I have driven plenty of fast RC cars in my day, but the Tenacity-t is scary fast when you run a 3S Lipo battery. On a long, smooth dirt road at full speed, all four tires ballooned up, and handling was on the edge of control the whole time. The Tenacity is equipped with Spektrum

AVC (Active Vehicle Control), so I decided to turn up the its stability-control ability via the Steering Dual RATE/AVC knob located beside the radio’s steering wheel. Speed runs after that were a lot easier, and after a handful of passes, the Tenacity displayed 47mph on the optional Spektrum speedometer installed on my DX2E Active radio system.

The soft-compound all-terrain truggy-style tires gave the Tenacity ultimate control on a variety of surfaces. The tires working with the 4WD drivetrain system provided a lot of forward traction, making wheelies on command as easy as grabbing a handful of throttle. A word of warning: The Tenacity can easily throw a large roost of dirt and rocks, which is awesomely addicting, but try not to do it when you’re standing behind the truck or you’ll get nailed. The suspension is race inspired, so it was no surprise to see it tackling ruts and bumps without breaking a sweat. The Tenacity cornered like a train on rails, and with the included 161 oz.-in. servo, it was easy to sling it around and carve some turns in the dirt, making it easy to put the Tenacity wherever you point it. Overall, the Tenacity truggy is a blast to drive; it’s guaranteed to put a huge smile on your face.
