› RPM Rear Bumpers for Traxxas Rustler & Stampede
Give your truck’s body a break with these five-minute bolt-ons
RPM R/C Products’ deep line of virtually breakproof products have been durability-boosting staples of the RC scene since the hobby’s boom years in the ’90s, and the brand is still a go-to for go-fast, go-big drivers—and who isn’t in that club? RPM latest parts are aimed at Traxxas’ all-time ultra-popular Stampede and Rustler electric truck duo, and each gets its own rear bumper to spare the motor and body from abuse.
INSTALLATION AND TESTING
You’ll only need five minutes to install each bumper, and both accommodate Traxxas’ optional wheelie bar. The bumpers mount to the Traxxas 3677 wheelie bar mount, or RPM’S own bumper/wheelie bar mount, which you can get in black (80902) or blue (80905). The Stampede bumper has separate “arms” that lift it to body height, and depending on how you attach them, the arms will be offset “narrow” for use without the wheelie bar or “wide” to straddle the bar. I installed the Stampede bumper on a Bigfoot model, and as noted in the RPM instructions, I had to enlarge the body’s bumper opening by about 5mm to clear the supports. Two snips—no problem.
In action, both bumpers spare the body from dragging damage when wheelieing without a wheelie bar, and afford extra protection for the motor too—especially the Stampede version, which projects past the mount and has a shock-absorbing effect thanks to the flexible plastics. As usual, RPM’S blend of plastics took all kinds of hits without a whimper, but pavement action will scrape up the plastic pretty good. But that’s what it’s there for.
FINAL WORD
If you get the Stampede bumper, you can even add LED lights to it—there are two 5mm openings ready to go. Hiqh quality, low price, easy to install, looks good—you could do a lot worse for less than $13. Having two color options is a bonus (how about adding your nice green color, RPM?), and these parts are Rpm-tough—as expected. Highly recommended for extra style, longer body life, and added motor protection.—peter Vieira
