FULL STEAM AHEAD
Thankfully, all the hard work and planning paid off, and this beast moves under its own power! The startup time is not exactly convenient, as it takes at least five minutes of prep and 10 minutes of heating just to build up enough pressure to get under way, but seeing it chug along the trail is very rewarding. Even with the reduction, there’s not a ton of torque there, but it will crawl over small obstacles. I’m quite pleased with the results, and I love using the steam whistle—it usually gets people’s attention! I have plans to work some more reduction and pressure into the system to aid in performance, mainly so that I can get some more off-road video footage.
