Performance

-

My truck was already pretty capable, but I was excited to get out to the trail and see how much its performance improved. But before we talk about performance, I want to talk about the look of my freshly done truck. The ’66 Chevy C10 is a great-looking truck as is, but that rear cage really takes it to another level. I’m very happy with how the truck came out in the end. There can be a temptation with a truck like this to say that it’s “too pretty to drive,” but when it comes to scalers, I feel that they look much better with some road rash. I already proved that my modified TRX-4 handles much better than it did when it was stock, so I’ll skip that talk and just go into how it performs now. My guess on the pinion-gear change was right on the money; my TRX-4 runs the same speed as it did before, and it has plenty of torque. I was a little concerned about how well the shifter servo would work in its new location with the 3D clamp in place, but it works perfectly. The truck’s front and rear weight balance is 58/42, which is pretty close to the ideal 60/40, but the truck’s CG is much lower, so that makes my truck more stable and lets me hit rocks that have a steeper incline without the worry of the truck tipping over. Now I’m able, with full confidence, to go through areas where I used to just hope for the best. The Pro-line Hyrax tires did a great job providing traction but felt even better than others that I’ve run, thanks to the dual-stage foam inserts. At night, the LEDS do a great job of lighting up the way, and although I hate installing them, I really like how they make my truck look.
