Traxxas reinvents the Rustler as a highpowered 4WD thrill machine
You asked for it! Traxxas fans have been after the brand to build a Rustler 4X4 for a long time, and you may recall we built a Rustler 4X4 of our own back in the December 2016 issue. Now the full-factory Rustler 4X4 VXL is here, but it is most definitely not a parts-bin machine like our project build. The Rustler 4X4 is fully optimized as a 4WD stadium truck, and Traxxas went hard with cutting-edge features from the X-maxx and the new E-revo. Along with an all-new, low-cg chassis, the Rustler 4X4 gets new suspension parts, a quick-release body, self-righting tech, and the Traxxas Stability Management system.
Like Traxxas’ other 4X4 VXL models, the truck rolls out with 3S-rated Velineon brushless power, making it a 65+mph machine. It’s officially a “Rustler,” but in performance and even styling, the E-revo vibes are strong.
