Tamiya HG Tweezers with Grip Type Tip
FEATURES
Another new tool release from Tamiya is their set of HG Tweezers with Grip Type Tip, a pair of precision tweezers intended for use with small parts like diff gears and pins, as well as building static model kits. The key features of these tweezers are the Grip Tip prongs and a deep centerline groove that sits at the very end of the tweezer tips. These extruded prongs, along with the deep groove make these a great tool for some of the smaller, often hard to handle parts in RC. Like Tamiya’s other HG Tweezer options, the Grip Type tweezers are made from stainless steel.
TESTING
Since precision is the name of the game for these tweezers, I opted to try them out with some differential parts I had laying around for a pending kit. First thing was to use them on the pin, washers, and gears of a typical gear diff. The small groove in the tips makes it super easy to grip onto diff pins and diff balls. With just a small amount of pressure, the Grip Tip tweezers hold small parts very securely. The prongs are a great feature for installing diff pins, eliminating the frustrating moments of trying to use my fingers or the possibility of scratching the diff pin with pliers. The same can be said for diff balls as well. The prongs and the grooves in the tips of these tweezers makes placing diff balls a cinch.
A word of caution, the prongs are quite delicate, so only moderate pressure need be applied when holding onto small parts. Luckily, Tamiya’s design is really effective, so that moderate pressure will do a good job of holding onto parts. Overall, I can see these pliers being a very useful specialty tool for building differentials and even extending into other hobbies like model kit building and other precision detail work.
