RC Car Action
Matt wanted to build his own RC interpretation of a Volkswagen Microbus funny car, and the Maisto Tech RC 1:10 Volkswagen Samba body proved to be the ideal starting point. He cut it to create sort of an extended cab pickup and sprayed it in a burgundy red metallic paint finish. For the chassis he created his own using an aluminum base plate and then custom-built his own fulllength frame rails and cage painted in a contrasting bright orange. For a front axle he turned to Tamiya, while the rear end and gearbox were sourced from a Traxxas Rustler. He used the Rustler’s suspension arms and driveshafts too, but narrowed them to get the proper width. A set of Mod 1 gears transmits the power from a Castle 4600kv motor through a set of Traxxas drag slicks, while the front are Team Walbern wheels. To get the scale look right Matt turned to Dark Dragon Wing for a fuel-injected Hemi with velocity stacks and a set of zoomies, then added accessories like a fire extinguisher bottle, a nitrous system, and a driver from Tamiya.
