RC Car Action

Starting Line

-

Time surely flies when you’re having fun doesn’t it? For those keeping track, RC Car Action celebrates its 35th year this year. Isn’t that amazing? RCCA has covered the surface radio control industry from its early days and we’re still going strong. It’s as much of a testament to the hobby that we love as well as our loyal readers. We thank you for being a part of our RC family.

Our first issue hit newsstands in 1986, a year after Back to the Future hit the movie theaters. Like Marty and Doc Brown did in the time travelling movie, we’re going to travel back in time to 1986 in this issue to show you a few articles and ads from our inaugural issue. Whether you’re an old timer like me or if you hadn’t been born yet when it came out, it’s an interesting time capsule to read for sure.

Speaking of Doc Brown, we get to take an in-depth look at a custom built, 3D printed RC Delorean Time Machine thanks to its creator Brett Turnage. He takes us through his design and build process and informs us on how we can build your very own. The Delorean isn’t the only movie inspired RC car that we examine in this retro themed issue. We also get behind the wheel of a Herbie inspired build. Herbie the Short Course Bug is based on a Traxxas Slash 2WD and is decked out in Pro-line Racing’s latest and greatest Slash upgrade parts, finished off in the iconic look of everybody’s favorite self-driving VW Beetle from the classic movies.

We also take a hop over the pond and visit Nigel Villeneuve Ratcliffe in Scotland to chat about his pet project, NRC Projects. NRC is known for its incredible miniaturized

80s and 90s tribute RC kits. You won’t want to miss it. We hope you enjoy this issue as much as we enjoyed putting it together. Stay tuned throughout the year for more RCCA 35th anniversary content in future print issues as well as on our website and on Facebook (/rccaraction) and Instagram (@ rccaraction).

As always, we enjoy seeing what you are doing with your RC vehicles. If you have a build you’d like to share with fellow readers, consider submitting your ride to be included into out Reader’s Rides department. You can find the easy to submit form at Rccaraction.com/readers-ride-entry-form/. It’s never been easier to submit your ride.

Until next time, Jerry Tsai Editorial Director
