21ST CENTURY CUSTOM SCOUT

- WES BRAZWELL « MACUNGIE, PA

Like much of the RC world Wes was bitten by the New Bright Bronco bug. He knew he wasn’t going to keep the stock yellow look, and scrolling around the internet turned up an artist’s rendering of what he envisioned a 2021 International Scout would look like. Wes figured it was the perfect project, especially with the history of the Bronco and Scout. Back in the ‘60s Ford took a lot of styling cues from the Scout to make their Bronco—wes figured it would be appropriate for the Scout to do the same decades later. The Scout body does not have any major panels changed, but most of them have small tweaks made from the original form. This included moving the hood opening, shaving the bumps off the roof, reducing the size of the rear windows, shaving the door handles and swapping out the badging from Bronco to International. The conversion involved a lot of traditional scratch building to sand and fill on the body, with some new tech thrown in. For the International logo on the rear door Wes used a Cricut machine to cut the letters from Styrene and glued them to give the look of stamped lettering. He used Fusion 360 to design a few parts like the grille emblems, headlight bezels, and dog dish hubcaps and had them 3D-printed by Shapeways. The headlight bezels were designed around some small aluminum funnels, which serve as the reflectors when LEDS were added. He got a little help from friend Todd Norton to print the custom clear taillight lenses. The Scout’s exterior looks great and the truck runs well, so next on Wes’s wish list is a redesigned interior.
