RC CAMPING

HAVING FUN WITH RC IN THE GREAT OUTDOORS

- Text and Images by Jerry Tsai

One of the great benefits of getting into RC crawling is the fact that it tends to draw you into participating in more outdoor activities. I for one find myself going out into the wilds more often after I built my RC crawler. Taking your rig out on the trail helps promote more physical exercise while also having fun with RC. Taking it another step, we can also take our RC vehicles out for more extended excursions, such as a long hike from a trailhead or even a multi-day camping trip.

From the forest to the desert, I’ve been camping with my RCS all summer long and look forward to doing even more once the outdoor temperatures start to cool down a touch in a month or so. Are you also enjoying your RC crawlers in the majestic beauty that only nature can offer us? I sure am.

If and when you go camping with your RC rig, what kind of RC gear and handy camping equipment do you take with you? Here’s a glimpse at some of the gear I pack. Same as with RC, camping requires plenty of relevant gear, and as a gear junkie, this rabbit hole is an easy one to fall into—but that’s a whole other conversation. Staying more on topic, I’d simply like to take this space to encourage fellow RC enthusiasts to have fun with their RCS in the great outdoors!

To start, if you don’t have a trail-ready rig, I suggest you go out and get one. They’re tons of fun to drive, even if you’re just finishing the day while winding down by the campfire. They’re even more fun to build, accessorize and drive on the trails. If you haven’t hit the campsite in a while, perhaps it’s time to head out and stretch your legs in the majesty of nature —and while you’re at it, test the potential of your off-road RC rigs, too. Trust me, your rigs (and you yourself) will love it.
