Proud Neighbors

Fox Point in Barrington

-

When Casey and Zadette Handal and their two daughters moved here, they raised an LGBT rainbow flag behind their home. Just before Christmas, someone stole it. “We were pretty devastated,” says Casey. Then a neighbor planted a rainbow flag on her lawn. Then another did the same. Now rainbow flags fly all over Fox Point. “When you get to know people, you want to do things for them,” says community board president Mike Moran. It was an especially powerful moment for their kids, says Casey. “We said, ‘Look at all the nice people in the world. For every bad person, there’s 100 nice people.’”
