Raise OK’D for Orphans’ Court judges

CEN­TRE­VILLE — The next set of Orphans’ Count judges for Queen Anne’s County will get an in­crease in pay and al­lowance for travel ex­penses.

The Queen Anne’s County Com­mis­sion­ers Tues­day, Oct. 23, unan­i­mously ap­proved Res­o­lu­tion 18-82 to set the salary for judges at

$10,000 an­nu­ally, up from

$7,650. It also es­tab­lished a travel al­lowance of $2,000 an­nu­ally, payable in quar­terly in­stall­ments.

The Orphans’ Court is made up of three judges, who do not have to be lawyers. It has ju­ris­dic­tion over the es­tates of de­ceased per­sons. The Court hears all mat­ters in­volv­ing con­tested cases and su­per­vises all es­tates that are pro­bated ju­di­cially.

Judges are elected to fouryear terms.

The new salary and travel al­lowance shall be ef­fec­tive at the be­gin­ning of the next term of of­fice for Queen Anne’s Judges of Orphans’ Court.
