Raise OK’D for Orphans’ Court judges
CENTREVILLE — The next set of Orphans’ Count judges for Queen Anne’s County will get an increase in pay and allowance for travel expenses.
The Queen Anne’s County Commissioners Tuesday, Oct. 23, unanimously approved Resolution 18-82 to set the salary for judges at
$10,000 annually, up from
$7,650. It also established a travel allowance of $2,000 annually, payable in quarterly installments.
The Orphans’ Court is made up of three judges, who do not have to be lawyers. It has jurisdiction over the estates of deceased persons. The Court hears all matters involving contested cases and supervises all estates that are probated judicially.
Judges are elected to fouryear terms.
The new salary and travel allowance shall be effective at the beginning of the next term of office for Queen Anne’s Judges of Orphans’ Court.
