Centreville musician Scaggiari performs benefit concert Dec. 14
CENTREVILLE — One of the most lovely and timeless signs of the holiday season is the sound of Christmas carols and holiday songs filling the air. This winter, Queen Anne’s County is fortunate to have the opportunity to hear both traditional and more contemporary Christmas songs performed live by internationally known musician Stefan Scaggiari. Scaggiari will be performing at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at the Queen Anne’s County Centre for the Arts in Centreville. The concert will jointly benefit two local non-profit organizations — the Centre for the Arts and the Friends of Queen Anne’s County Library.
A Centreville resident, Scaggiari is a pianist, composer, arranger, recording artist and vocalist. He has performed both nationally and internationally as a jazz and classical pianist. He has performed around the world, including such renowned venues as the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall and is delighted to have this opportunity to celebrate the holiday season back at home, while supporting two organizations that do so much to support the Queen Anne’s County community.
The holiday concert is the latest installment in the Centre for the Arts 206 Coffee House Concert Series, which aims to allow county residents to see national and local musicians in intimate venues at a reasonable price. In addition to sponsoring music performances and art exhibits, the Centre for the Arts is known for offering classes in a range of artistic genres and for their financial support of art projects throughout the community, including in local schools.
The Friends of the Library are happy to be partnering with the Centre for the Arts for Scaggiari’s performance. The Friends of the Library is a member-based nonprofit that raises funds to support both county libraries. In 2018 alone, the Friends funded: a monthly wellness program at the library, books for more than
300 elementary kids in book clubs with library volunteers, 3-D printers that will be central to new Maker Spaces for community use, and the “Libraries Rock” Summer Reading Program that engaged more than
1,900 county children in 150 events and programs while they were out of school. Proceeds from this concert will allow both organizations to increase their levels of support of programs for the community in 2019.
Tickets for the concert are $20 and include music, wine and light hors d’oeuvres. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Centre for the Arts, 206 S. Commerce Street, Centreville, Monday through Friday, or online at https://friendsofqaclibrar y. org/event/holiday-concertfeaturingstefan-scaggiari/.
