Overturned truck shuts down westbound traffic
STEVENSVILLE — An overturned tractor and trailer blocked U.S. Route 50 west and stopped westbound traffic for several hours Thursday afternoon, Nov.
No one was injured in the crash, according to Maryland Transportation Authority Police Cpl. Edward Bartlinski. Westbound traffic was stopped from about
1 to 5 p.m.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation and the name of the operator and company they were driving for has not been released, Bartlinski said.
These intensive investigations often take weeks or even months, and MDTA will not release further information until the investigation is complete, Bartlinski added. No charges have been filed.
Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department responded to assist MDTA.
Shortly after the crash, Queen Anne’s County officials activated the Route 18/8 Traffic Plan which limits the travel on these road to local traffic only. Motorists were urged to avoid the area. Two-way traffic was opened on the two-lane span of the bridge while recovery units worked to clear the scene.
