Car Wash opens in former bank building
CHESTER — Autobell Car Wash Inc. has opened at 119 South Piney Road in Chester, just off U.S. Route 50, exit 40A, next to the CVS. The Kent Island store is Autobell’s third location in the Baltimore metro area, after Annapolis and Bel Air. Kevin Dixon leads the Autobell team as store manager, with 15 fulltime and part-time employees.
The new location is the 81st Autobell Car Wash. Autobell is the nation’s fourth largest car wash company, founded by Chuck and Carl Howard of Charlotte, NC. Autobell is a full-service car wash offering customers exterior and interior cleaning options. All Autobell locations treat and recycle wash water, while disposing of treated wash water only into approved water treatment facilities.
Maryland District Manager Joseph Noel said, “Introducing and expanding the Autobell brand in this market has been exciting and encouraging for me and the fine teams of employees we have assembled here. We love showing customers how our full-service car wash model can take excellent care of their cars as well as their time.”
The Chester Autobell employees began community involvement before the car wash even opened, as a group of employees, led by Noel, conducted a beach cleanup at Terrapin Nature Park in October.
After meeting the needs of cleaning their customers’ vehicles, protecting the environment is Autobell’s next major concern in every community.
Noel said, “We were keenly aware of protecting the environment here at the Kent Island location, especially not causing a problem to the waters of the Chesapeake Bay.”
Another example of Autobell’s commitment to recycling and the environment showcases the unique conversion of a former bank building into a car wash. Repurposing the dormant structure included unusual challenges such as systematically dismantling and removing the security vault of reinforced concrete and its 1,800-pound door. The project was handled by the Autobell construction department in conjunction with local general contractor Herman Stewart Construction.
The new car wash, and all locations of Autobell, are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
A basic drive-through exterior wash costs $7, and prices go up as features such as polish, deep cleaning, and under body wash are added.
The Full-service Wash includes vacuuming, exterior cleaning including wheels, interior windows, dash panel, and console wipe down, and hand-drying for $19.99.
Extra services that can be added individually include fragrance, under body wash, rain repellent, polish and sealer, premium mat cleaning, tire gloss, and Armor All Original Protectant for car interiors dashes and panels after cleaning.
All Autobell employees are drug tested prior to hiring, and must submit to random drug testing for continued employment. This is company policy.

The former Chevy Chase Bank building in Chester has been renovated into the new Autobell Car Wash. Taking into consideration the environment, Autobell looks for sites to renovate rather than building totally new structures.
