Derailment not in the lesson plan
A CTA train partially derailed Sunday morning during what was supposed to be a lesson for budding engineers on how to ferry passengers safely through the city’s public transportation system, officials said.
There were no injuries and no customers on the four-car train when its third car jumped off the tracks about 7:45 a.m. near 14th Street between State Street and Wabash Avenue in the middle of an instructional trip for CTA employees, agency spokeswoman Noelle Gaffney said.
CTA service on parts of the Green and Orange Lines was delayed for several hours Sunday, Gaffney said, adding that officials are investigating the cause of the accident.
“It shouldn’t impact service too significantly,” Gaffney said.
