Push Me, Pull You
We called it a pushie, and in 1954 my brother Dennis, standing, and I raced it down the hilly streets of our Pottstown, Pennsylvania, neighborhood. Ours was always the fastest. My grandfather was caretaker for a local estate, and the owner gave him a set of professional-looking Soap Box Derby wheels with ball bearings and iron axles. We rigged a steering wheel to a rope to control the front tires.
