Af­ter Pitts­burgh, PA, owner/op­er­a­tor Jim Del­li­gatti for­mu­lated what would be­come its sig­na­ture sand­wich in 1967, McDonald’s in­tro­duced the

Big Mac to all fran­chisees in 1968.

THE NAME

Es­ther Rose,

21, work­ing in 1967 as an ad­ver­tis­ing

sec­re­tary, pitched the name “Big Mac,” thus of­fi­cially la­bel­ing the most fa­mous

sand­wich of the cen­tury.

THE PRICE

Af­ter launch­ing in 1968 for 49 cents, a Big Mac to­day is $4 to $5 or more.

In 2007, Del­li­gatti and his

fam­ily opened a Big Mac Mu­seum Restau­rant in North

As of 2015, 550 mil­lion Big Macs were sold an­nu­ally.

Bot­tles of lim­ited-edi­tion Big Mac sauce priced as high

as $10,000 ap­peared on eBay af­ter McDonald’s

gave away 10,000 bot­tles of the tasty condi­ment

in Jan­uary 2017.
